6-7My counsel for you is simple and straightforward: Just go ahead with what you’ve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him. You’re deeply rooted in him. You’re well constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. Now do what you’ve been taught. School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving. Colossians 2:6-7 MSG
In the last 10 years of ministry I have observed many different levels of faith in many different types of people. So many people love just learning, observing and absorbing everything they can about God and Jesus and the Gospel but they have no desire to live out the life of servitude. They want to take, but they don’t want to give.
Or even worse, they want to give comfortably. Minimum commitment, little sacrifice–they are willing to serve if it doesn’t interfere with the life they want to live for themselves, or their kids. They know the truth, the requirements of being a Christ-follower but fail to cross that threshold of complete surrender.
Now that you know Jesus, and have rooted your life in Him, it’s time to change the way you are living–whether it is in sin, or complacent, whether it’s foolish or selfish–Jesus has given you a new life, so now it’s time to live like it. Here is the way it works, when you root your life in Jesus, your tree must produce the leaves and fruit that reflect your roots. You can’t be rooted in Jesus and then produce worldliness. Reflect the seeds of Love and the roots of Grace!
